There you are in a nice comfortable boat. That’s not really where you want to be, but it’s manageable. You look far into the distance and spot your dream destination. It looks so beautiful, inviting and reachable. There is only one problem. This boat of yours will not take you there; it’s going in another direction. There is only one way to get there: Step out of the boat and walk on water. You’re hopeful and optimistic. You’re prepared, you think. So, you step out of the comfortable boat and…you find yourself sinking fast amidst the waves. Somehow, your fellow boat-riders spot you and quickly help you back into the boat before you drown.
As you catch your breath, you look at your dream destination again. But no, you’ve learnt your lesson.
This is for those who have tried to go after their dreams but have been fallen flat on their faces.
It takes guts to try to do something different like leaving a comfortable boat and walking on water. The fact that you even attempted it is proof that you’re more courageous than you think.
Nobody really sets out to fail at any endeavour, so that’s not a very pretty experience to go through. But you’re much bigger than that experience. It’s only a small part of your story. You can try again.
Redefine your understanding of failure. Change your perception of who or what failed. Events fail. Processes fail. Businesses fail. But people do not fail. The moment you fail as a person is the moment you stop breathing. And since you’re still breathing, it means you can try again.
Try to change your perspective and observe your past experience more objectively. Consider whether some part of what you were doing was faulty or maybe you really didn’t give it your best. Perhaps, the timing, place or some other variable was wrong. Get external feedback where you can.
Pray. It is God who gives strength to the weary. Go to Him and ask for the grace to pick up the baton again. He will give you wisdom and courage.
Be assured that every person who thought of doing something worthwhile has had to deal some kind of failure at some point or the other; and many people deal with it on a continuous basis as they enlarge their vision. You’re in excellent company.
And you can be ALL that you were created to be.
