Last time, we discussed how your talent can be a pointer to a divine assignment you have. Today, we’ll discuss how you can use your identified talent to create value and meet a need. So, you have one or more talents. The first thing you need to realise is that your talent isn’t about you alone. Your personal gratification is too small to be the purpose of your talents. You are talented because you’re supposed to use it to create value for other people.
Every talent is an ability or enablement that can meet a need or solve a problem, no matter how simple or complex that need or problem is. Wealth and fulfilment flows in the direction of added value. When you add some kind of value to a person or a group of people, you can be sure that the value will flow back to you in the form of fulfilment, wealth or both.
So, how can you tailor your talent to create value? Once again, I’ll use myself as an example (since I have my own permission). I love words and I’m talented at writing and speaking them. I have identified a need of many people: significance, contribution and meaning. This need is wrapped in different problems, challenges and barriers that people have: confusion about personal purpose or passion, lack of direction, self-doubt, low self-esteem, different fears and debilitating beliefs, etc. I use my talent of writing and speaking to solve these challenges for people. That way, I am meeting needs and creating value for these people.
There are over seven billion people in the world. Our needs are diverse and they come in different forms: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, financial, social, recreational, and many more. The needs of the human race could be tangible or intangible. We need food, style, fun, entertainment, information, education, motivation, empowerment, communication and much more.
You have been equipped to meet one or more needs with your talent. So, identify a need that your talent can meet, and begin to serve the people who have these needs. Don’t deprive the world of your unique blessing by hiding behind excuses. When you hide from people so much, one day, you’ll be hidden to yourself.
