A few weeks ago, I was at a big hospital. No, not as a patient; I was visiting one of the shop owners on the hospital grounds. Of course, I have been to hospitals before, but this visit was quite an experience.
While I was there I heard different stories of sickness and death, healing and recovery, and even of bills being paid supernaturally. I even met a couple of people who were visiting and staying with their sick loved ones in the hospital. Also, right before me, a negotiation was made between an agent who could supply a blood donor for the right price!
I left the hospital grounds with two resolutions, and they are the basis of my thoughts today:
1. Always be thankful.
Being alive is a privilege. Having good health is a privilege. Having not-so-good-but-manageable health is a privilege. Not needing to negotiate with blood donors is a privilege. The ability to go about our normal business and affairs is a privilege.
Every day, we need to be deliberate about thanking God for sustaining us and keeping us alive and standing.
One way to keep this in mind is to use a Daily Gratitude Journal, and set reminders to think and be grateful to God about what has happened in the course of the day. You can use a physical paper journal or an app. I use an app, and most of the apps even come with a reminder tool.
2. Take action now.
Don’t wait for some time in the future to do what you should do now. Let your family know you love them. Write that book. Forgive that person. Go on that trip. Start that project or business.
Even while we pray and trust that God has given us a long life, it is not an excuse to keep putting things off till sometime in the future. If you know that you have been called and graced to do something, pray about it and get on with it.
Life is a privilege, let us embrace it and live it with gratitude and fervour.
