What Will People Say?

November 28, 2018 Tinukemi Olaoye

What will people say?

This is a major question that plagues everyone that chooses to do something different or dares to take the steps to live the life of your dreams.

If you’re a very bold person, this issue may manifest itself as a small concern. But if you’re not feeling bold, this can be a very real fear. It can become so real that it develops big chains that keep us stuck in the regular way of life and prevents us from taking the chance to be who really want to be.

Nobody loves rejection in any form. We were created with the need for acceptance. Unfortunately, we seek this acceptance from all the wrong sources. We want people to like us, think well of us and speak highly of us. We don’t want people to find us offensive or think that we’re stupid. We don’t want people to treat us with contempt or even misunderstanding. We want to be in the good books of everybody.

Well, you cannot be in everyone’s good books. It’s just impossible for everyone to like you and speak well of you.

The greatest human being who ever lived was Jesus Christ and even He was grossly misunderstood, criticized, and even persecuted. There was a time when it was even said that He was demon-possessed.

Don’t let the fear of what other people will think or say hold you back from revealing the gold that’s in you.  It doesn’t matter if these are your closest friends and relatives. The fear of people is a very secure prison. It is guaranteed to hold you back from living out your true potential.

How do you break free from this fear of what people will say?

  • Pray. It’s always a good thing to be conscious of the fact that you can ask God for help and He’ll help you.
  • Resign yourself to the fact that people will always talk about you and it will not always be a good report. Not everyone will like or understand you. There’s nothing you can do about this and the earlier you accept it the better. It won’t always feel good, but you can learn to get over it.
  • Surround yourself with people who believe in you and will support you.
  • Find people that have gone through the same things. You can meet them in person or read their stories and autobiographies. This way, you’ll know that you’re in the company of great people.

It’s time to break free.

Live more life!
