Last time we began to address a rather peculiar issue. I’ve discovered from personal experience that it could be discouraging to have many players in your field. When it seems that your industry is clustered with so many people doing what you want to do. It may act discourage you for a number of reasons.
I personally got over this ‘hindrance’ by changing certain beliefs and reinforcing other ones. Like I shared the last time, the first belief that I adapted and reinforced was the fact that God doesn’t make mistakes. If He formed me to do something and gave me the desire to do it, then, I was needed, too, regardless of how clustered the field seemed.
The other beliefs that I reinforced were:
- There is more than enough to go round. I finally realised that it was a kind of ‘scarcity mentality’ that I was dealing with. There will always be room for you if this is what you were meant to do. Roughly translated, a Yoruba proverb says “There is more than enough space in the sky for birds to fly without their wings colliding.” You don’t need everybody anyway; you only need your own tribe of people which could even be a little percentage.
- Innovation is key. When there’s so many people around who are doing the same thing, it should challenge you to become more innovative. They say necessity is the mother of invention. I say ‘so-many-people-at-it’ is the mother of innovation. There are many processes to getting a final result, change one of the processes, do your own thing in another place or another way. It’s a big world, a large playing field, and it gets even better if you’re innovative.
- Excellence is non-negotiable. Becoming excellent at what you do is the best response to mediocrity in your chosen field.
- Pally up. The other people who do what you do are not your competition, not necessarily anyway. They are your colleagues who share the same assignment in different ways. These are the people that you can synergise with to make an even bigger difference.
The only person who couldn’t share His unique calling was Jesus Christ. The rest of us will serve others in capacities that are shared by many others. Choose to view this as a blessing, not a hindrance. You are needed, too.
You can be ALL that you were created to be.
