Do you want to know your natural habitat? Or would you like to confirm what you already suspect to be your divine assignment? Well, let me offer you an easy guide. There are several ways for you to understand your calling. One simple way is to simply look at your natural talents.
Your talent is an indication of a specific divine assignment you have in your life. It’s really that simple.
You were created with certain talents because you were meant to use them. It’s not a coincidence that you have a natural aptitude or inclination for some things or can do some things better than other people.
Let me illustrate with a personal example. When I was in secondary school, I was consistently the best English student in my class. I excelled at it, and at Literature-In-English, too. I loved stories, I loved writing and I loved to play with words. Then I found writing so easy and I did it all the time. It is the same today: I write easily and I write ALL the time.
As an aside (and a bit of story; I never miss the opportunity to tell a story), I disliked of all my Mathematics teachers and what they represented. I struggled with Mathematics. It was like another language to me and I just couldn’t get how a group of numbers ended up as one number. I found it frustrating, and I was finally very glad to read Law in the University, far away from Mathematics.
Now, the love of a subject may not necessary be an indication for you, especially if you had parents or guardians who wanted you to take certain subjects in school. My point is that there is a reason why you have certain inclinations.
If your gifts, talents and inclinations were not supposed to feature somewhere and somehow in your life, then you wouldn’t have those gifts. Believe me, God doesn’t waste resources. The fact that you have a certain talent is a pointer to the fact that you were meant to use it.
However, that’s only the beginning. It is one thing for you to understand your talent, and it is another thing to understand how and where to apply it. Talking with your Creator, God, and asking Him is a very good place to start. You’re unique and the world is waiting for your significant addition!
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous- how well I know it. – Psalms 139:13-14, New Living Translation
