How to Finish The Year Strong

November 3, 2020 Tinukemi Olaoye

There are about eight weeks to the end of the year, and if we throw in all the holiday preparations and the festive season, we may be looking at only six or seven weeks of dedicated focus.

Well, I believe that anyone can still finish this year strong. One way to do that is by asking this question: What one thing do I want to achieve before 2020 is over? What one result do I really want to have before this year is over?

So, consider 2020 like a race where you’re giving the final push just as you approach the finishing line.

This means that you can pick one goal or target within any area of your life and focus on working on it before the year is over. If you hit that goal or target before 2020 is done, you would be celebrating an achievement by the end of the year. And if for some reason, you do not achieve it fully, you would still be celebrating getting a good head-start for 2021. One way or another, you would be finishing this year strong of you focus on one major goal.

We need to be realistic. There is only so much time left in the year, and you can’t do everything. What we can do is try to make our ‘one thing’ count. Here are a few guidelines to help with that:

  1. Pray for direction. God is very interested in every area of our lives, so He may lead you to any part of your life.
  2. Try not to overdo it. Obviously, there’s only so much you can do in eight weeks. So, try not to make up for a whole year in 8 weeks. If there was a major project you wanted to get done in the twelve months of this year, this shouldn’t be an attempt to start it all over and finish it. Pick a realistic target for eight weeks, keeping your existing obligations and commitments in mind.
  3. Your one thing could be a habit or a specific set goal. To be clear on it, just ask yourself what will be the indication that you have developed the habit or achieved that goal. How would you know? Is it when you hit a certain weight or you stop feeling envious of others as you scroll through social media? Clarify the result you want to see.
  4. If you can, choose one thing that could have an effect on other areas of your life. That way, even though you focus on one thing, you would be reaping its effect in other areas of your life.

So, as we wrap up here, I charge you to find that one thing that you can achieve that will have an effect on other areas of your life and give it your best shot. And you will find yourself finishing the year strong. I pray that this will be our reality in Jesus Name.
